Getting you back to your sport

Sports injuries range from sudden sprains and strains to overuse problems that build up gradually, such as tendon pain. The right treatment depends on what’s injured and how, so the first step is a careful assessment.

We can scan many injuries with ultrasound on site, and we’ll give you a clear plan to return to your sport.

Self-care

In the first few days

  • Protect the injured area and rest it for a short time, then start moving gently.
  • Use ice wrapped in a cloth for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, and raise the injured area.
  • Avoid returning to sport too soon; a gradual return reduces the risk of re-injury.

  • Achilles tendinopathy★★★★★
Gary was a great help, in particular his recommendations on using the balance pad to strengthen surrounding tendons… It took a long time to notice any major improvement… Give it a go, but please don’t expect it to work quickly and solve everything.
    Max E. · 2026 · Google review
  • Achilles tendinopathy★★★★★
After an initial consultation with Gary for achilles tendonitis, an ultrasound scan followed by shockwave treatment, I then had weekly sessions over a period of 2 months… The shockwave results weren’t instantaneous and the pain sometimes fluctuated.
    Mel R. · 2025 · Google review
  • Calcific tendonitis★★★★★
Attended Gary at the Vale Health Clinic for chronic shoulder calcific tendinopathy… Gary was informative, without being condescending, and explaining everything he was doing and why, as well as being personable and chatty!

Your questions

Getting you back to your sport questions answered

Should I use ice or heat?

In the first couple of days after a sudden injury, ice and elevation can help with swelling. Heat is often more comfortable for stiff muscles later on.

When can I go back to sport?

When you can move without pain and have your strength back. We’ll give you a step-by-step plan.

Do you offer sports massage?

No, we don’t offer massage. We focus on assessment, hands-on chiropractic treatment, exercise and other treatments.
