Assessment and hands-on treatment for back pain, neck pain, sciatica and other joint and muscle problems, from GCC-registered chiropractors, with exercises to keep you moving between visits.
GCC-registered chiropractors · Free 10-minute chat available · Spinal decompression on site
Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK that focuses on problems with the spine, joints and muscles. Chiropractors use hands-on techniques, such as spinal manipulation, mobilisation and soft tissue work, together with exercise and advice, to help reduce pain and get you moving more comfortably.
All chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC), which sets standards for training and practice. Every chiropractor at Vale is GCC-registered.
Short-term and long-standing low back pain, including pain that comes and goes.
Pain travelling into the buttock or leg from an irritated nerve, after a careful assessment.
Stiff, painful necks and some types of headache that start in the neck.
Shoulder, hip and knee problems, and injuries from sport or everyday activity.
Not sure if chiropractic is right for you? Book a short, free face-to-face chat first.
We take a full history, examine your spine and joints, explain what we find, and start treatment if it’s appropriate.
We agree a plan with you, usually combining hands-on treatment with exercises and advice you can do at home.
We review your progress at each visit and adjust the plan, aiming to reduce how often you need to come back.
For low back pain, UK clinical guidelines recommend that hands-on treatment, such as spinal manipulation, mobilisation and soft tissue techniques, is considered as part of a package that includes exercise, rather than on its own. That’s how we work: treatment in the clinic is combined with exercises and advice to help you stay active between visits.
The research suggests that, for many people with back and neck pain, hands-on care combined with exercise can help reduce pain and improve movement, though the effect varies from person to person and no single treatment works for everyone. We’ll be honest about what’s realistic for your problem.
Call 999 or go to A&E straight away if you have back pain with any of these:
Seek urgent medical advice for back or neck pain with a fever, after a significant fall or injury, if you have a history of cancer, or if you feel generally unwell.

I went to see Gary as I was having some lower back issues. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining what the likely causes were… and he followed it up with some helpful exercises to prevent future issues, as well as practical advice.
I recommend Jean Luc to everyone I meet. He adopts a holistic, whole person approach… and offers great advice for continuing the work at home. The clinic is beautiful and centrally located.
Professional, friendly and most importantly effective. What’s also nice is that I was never forced to rebook or given a ‘minimum number of sessions’ for results. It’s straightforward. Book again if it helps and you need additional support.
After the first appointment with Gary I noticed a marked improvement, and it has continued to improve with subsequent treatments. Gary’s advice on precipitating factors has been really useful and the remedial exercises he suggested are also very effective.
I went for a consultation with Jean Luc who suggested my migraines could be caused by a problem with my neck. After several treatments to my neck, back and jaw, my headaches began to improve and become less frequent… Jean Luc is very knowledgeable and kind.
Both my wife and I have been seeing Gary Edwards… initially for acute flares of back/neck problems and now for maintenance treatment. He is extremely professional and thorough… giving us a full half hour on each visit.

Most people find treatment comfortable. You may hear a click during spinal manipulation, which is just gas being released from the joint. We’ll always explain what we’re doing and you can ask us to stop at any time.
It’s common to feel a little sore or stiff for a day or two after treatment, a bit like after exercise. Serious complications are rare. We ask about your health at your first appointment so we can choose techniques that suit you, and we’ll explain any risks before treating you.
It depends on your problem and how long you’ve had it. We’ll suggest a plan after your first appointment and review it as you go, rather than asking you to commit to a long course up front.
