What results can I expect?

Every result is different. It depends on your hair, your donor area and how much hair you’ve lost. Here’s what affects it, and what to expect over the first year.

Being realistic

What affects your result

A transplant moves hair from where you have plenty to where you have less. It can’t create more hair than you have, so the result depends on the amount and quality of your donor hair compared with the area to be covered.

We’ll give you an honest view at your free consultation of what’s achievable for you.

Your hair

Factors that make a difference

  • Hair type

Thick, coarse or curly hair tends to look fuller than fine, straight hair.

  • Hair and skin colour

Less contrast between hair and scalp, such as fair hair on fair skin, can look denser.

  • Donor density

More hairs at the back and sides means more grafts can be taken safely.

  • Extent of loss

A larger thinning area needs more grafts to cover it.

Your questions

Results questions answered

When will I see my result?

Transplanted hairs usually shed within a few weeks. New growth typically starts at 3 to 4 months, and most people see the full result at around 9 to 12 months. It can take longer at the crown.

Is the result permanent?

Transplanted hair usually keeps growing, because it comes from areas resistant to thinning. But hair around it may continue to thin, so you may want further treatment in future.

Can you guarantee a result?

No. Results vary from person to person, and some grafts may not grow. We’ll explain what’s realistic for you before you decide.
